You might not think about hammocks when it comes to using the principles of Feng Shui, the Chinese art of placement. Hammocks are wonderful casual furniture that look great in a variety of settings. Typically, the hammock is on a patio. That's ideal because who doesn't like to sit on the patio swinging in the shade of a big pine tree? From Feng Shui viewpoint, the hammocks are great because they provide the Chi or energy to flow evenly around them. There is nothing underneath to block the energy and the swaying is relaxing. There is a balanced flow of energy above and underneath. Many people have stuff under the bed and this blocks the energy form flowing evenly around the bed. When you spend 8 hours in a bed, that really makes a difference, but a short time in a hammock is especially relaxing because of the good flow of energy.

Another decorating tip is to hang the hammock so that the person lying in the hammock faces the direction of people walking up to them. If you face the person away from a door or entrance to a patio, they will unconsciously feel vulnerable and less safe. They may literally be quite safe, but they will feel a sense of unease and anxiety. That's the antithesis of being in a hammock. Don't hesitate to hang the hammock in a family room or bedroom. The same principles of good energy flow follow throughout wherever the hammock is hung, so let your family enjoy this comfortable marvel anywhere and feel comfortable doing it.
